REI Place?  Meet Web 2.0 ...

Taking your internet experience to a whole new level

Congratulations.  You're about to get a "sneak peak" behind the curtain of an exciting new project we currently underway down here in the "Area 51" of the internet.  It's called “My REI Place”, and I can promise you it's like nothing you've ever been involved with at FlippingHomes.com or REIplace.com before.

What I'm talking about is a huge leap forward.  It's taking the enormous value that the REI Place community has been over the years thus far, and applying it to the new and exciting world of “Web 2.0”.

Huh?  Web-who-point-what?

Relax.  Let me give you a quick synopsis, in a nutshell, of what I'm talking about, and more importantly how you’ll stand to benefit in your real estate business by being a part of it with us.

If you’ve been around the Flipping Homes community for any amount of time, you’re probably at least somewhat familiar with our relationship with REIplace.com.  It’s a “sister site” of a sort, and a joint-venture between Steve Cook, John Hyre, William Tingle and Hal Roark.

You may also have noticed that the REIplace.com website hasn’t been “tweaked’ in quite a while.

The look and feel of it, while functional, has remained relatively unchanged and basically served a very static but noble purpose: To facilitate one of the best newsgroup discussion forums on the net today for real estate investors.

Technology and the internet have continued to grow and evolve, and our lives and businesses have become far more interactive and intertwined than ever before.  Some would call it a blessing and some a curse, but whatever you call it you cannot deny that it’s here.

And both FlippingHomes.com and REIplace.com are about to take huge, unprecedented steps forward to help you learn how to benefit as a real estate investor from the new “Web 2.0” experience.

Now some of you are tracking right along with me.  You know exactly what I mean when I talk about “Web 2.0”, and – heck – you may have already “Dugg” this article, or bookmarked it in your “Del.icio.us” account.  J

But if you’re not so “up” on the lingo and technology of the day, how about a quick primer before I tell you what’s coming and what’s in it for you?

What is Web 2.0?

Great question.  Sounds like some sort of crazy software, doesn’t it?

Flipping Homes and Web 2.0

A quick look at Wikipedia.org defines Web 2.0 as,

“…a second generation of Internet-based services—such as social networking sites, wikis, communication tools…that emphasize online collaboration and sharing among users.”

Not bad.  But still a little fuzzy if you ask me.

Actually depending on who you’re talking to, you may get a different definition of Web 2.0 every time you ask.  But if you wanted to try and cram it all into one tiny little nutshell you could say that Web 2.0 is the next stage in the development of the internet and how people are using it.

Within the world of "Web 2.0-ers", you'll hear such terms as “tagging”, “social networking”, “social bookmarking” and “interactive content.”

Now I don’t want to go all “geeky” on you, but this is big, big, BIG stuff.  And that’s why we’re going to make it our mission to help you plug into it and discover how to best use it to enhance and grow your real estate investing business.

Can you digg_guy  it?

Did you know that our own web-famous newsgroup discussion forum (which has been around since 2001) is actually a “social networking” feature, and an early form of Web 2.0 live and in action?  So congratulations, if you’re a part of our newsgroup, you’re already a “social networker”!

But taking this to the next level, in recent years you may have noticed environments like MySpace, Facebook, ClassMates, Digg, Del.icio.us, Reddit and many, many others popping up here and there.

On it’s most basic level, “Web 2.0” is the process of placing internet content creation into the hands of people like you, and giving you powerful tools to network with like-minded people, share ideas, build communities, grow and learn together in powerful ways never before possible.

So how can Web 2.0 help me as a real estate investor?

Can Web 2.0 Enhance Real Estate Investing?
Let me ask you this:  Do you have a MySpace account?  Or maybe you’ve visited someone else’s MySpace page?

What’s it like?  What’s all the hype about?  Why are people tapping into this thing, setting up their own little webpages, and making ‘friend requests’ to no end?

As we’ve been discussing, it’s the power of social networking.  It’s about people having their own “space” on the internet, adding their own flare to it, and connecting with people who have similar interests, likes, dislikes, or who just want to start a new interest “group”.

Meet “My REI Place”

Think MySpace…but for real estate investors.

Think about an online community that lets you meet other investors and connect with them in a whole new way.

Through My REI Place, you’ll be able to:

  • Share your deals, your “ups and downs” and lessons learned through community blogs
  • Connect with other investors with similar interests by setting up a focus group, based on interest, topic or even geographic area!
  • Share photos of yourself, your deals and maybe even a picture of your office (hope it doesn’t look like mine!)
  • Get real life answers to help your REI business through the newsgroup discussion forums in an enhanced, streamlined, more organized fashion.  (adding keyword “tags” to forum posts, etc.)
  • Enhance your real estate business through what you learn from ongoing real-world case studies and success stories from others in the community.
  • Create and share blog posts, deal photos and other interests with your growing network of mutual friends – and you can tap into the same from other investors in the community

Sound confusing?  Don’t let it be.  This is a quick article.  We’re furiously at work putting it all together, and once it’s released we’ll walk you step-by-step how to quickly and easily get setup and ready to rock with your own piece of “My REI Place” real estate.

Oh yeah, and it will be free. No cost.  No charge.  We may run a few ads or something, but the idea (just like MySpace) is to let you setup as quickly and easily as possible, at no cost whatsoever, and start growing through the community experience.

Ok, that’s all for now.  I have to go get to work on it!
